Quiz Night – Holding a quiz night, whether it’s a pub quiz, Christmas quiz or a virtual quiz with friends, is a great way to get everyone together. Even better — you’ll also be raising money for the people we support. It’s easy to get started, read on to find out how.
Planning your own event anything goes from a sponsored walk to a cake sale or quiz night, here’s out top tips for holding an event:
1. Find a group of friends or colleagues to help you and form a committee
2. Hold a vote to decide what activity you want to do,
Choose something you all enjoy doing together, here’ some ideas
- A sponsored knit
- A walk, climb of cycling event
- A quiz night or online quiz,
3. Set a budget and goals
Draw up a budget and goals for your event ideally the cost should be no more than 50% of what you raise. Decide how much you want to see your ticket or how you expect each person to raise.

5. Draw up a plan of action
How are you going to look after the money you raise and get it to Quays Housing (Cheque or bank draft, safe/cash box, bank account?)Don’t forget to thank everyone who helped. 😊
9. Legalities
Gift Aid If people donating are UK taxpayers, it may be possible to use the Gift Aid tax system to increase the value of their donation. see the HMRC website for further details.
Raffles If you are f holding a raffle, the timeframe you hold it over must be taken into consideration. If you are selling raffle tickets and drawing the winner(s) over a period of days/weeks, you must apply for a small lottery licence from your local council. If you are selling tickets and drawing them at the event, you do not need to do this.
Collections: You must always apply for a street collecting licence from your local council to collect in a public road or ask for permission from the manager of the store/premises if you wish to collect outside, or on the land of, a supermarket, shopping centre or leisure centre. Attempting to collect money from the public without permission could be a criminal offence.
